Candidate DeWayne Bridges Bows Out, Supports Dan Carbery
In Ward 6 Overland Park City Council Race

February 11, 2003

DeWayne Bridges, Ward 6 Overland Park City Council candidate, has thrown his support to Dan Carbery who is running for the same seat. Mr. Bridges is President of Kingston Lakes subdivision and a Partner at J.P. Mann Construction in Mission, KS.

The Board of The Kingston Lakes subdivision also has endorsed Mr. Carbery, as have a growing number of neighborhood associations and their Presidents from across Ward 6, including Southern Oaks, Oxford Pointe/Switzer Lake, Blue Valley Riding, Brittany Park, and Regency By The Lake.

Mr. Bridges came to his decision after discussing with Mr. Carbery neighborhood concerns of Kingston Lakes and other subdivisions in Ward 6. Mr. Bridges concluded that it would be more effective for him to focus on neighborhood issues in his capacity as President of Kingston Lakes with the assurance that Mr. Carbery would listen to and be responsive to neighborhood interests on the City Council.

On Thursday evening, January 30, residents from across Ward 6 held a candidate forum which all 4 candidates attended. A moderator and then audience members questioned the candidates for over an hour and a half. Afterwards, the audience discussed each candidate. There was a strong current of support for Mr. Bridges as one of the candidates who understood and was supportive of neighborhood concerns.

In the end, neighbors decided they needed to back a single candidate and chose Mr. Carbery as that candidate. Mr. Carbery is a Civil Engineer who neighbors felt had a good grasp of their concerns and would bring a fresh perspective to the Overland Park City Council.

Mr. Bridges believes that his support for Mr. Carbery will help unify the neighborhood vote and increase the chances of electing a candidate who understands neighborhood issues.
