This was a wonderful hiking trip in northern California. We saw only 8 other people on the trail, all of them coming down as we were going up. The rest of the day we had the park to ourselves, except of course for some birds - including an egret Bob saw in the distance, which turned itself into a junction pole sign as we approached.
As we started the hike, walking along the entry road next to a meadow, we were met by a bunch of turkeys. They ignored us.

There were lots of ferns growing alongside the road. We saw only a few flowers on the trip, it being January.

As we are climbing up we pass a pond, now dry, which we remember as being filled with water on previous trips.

After a final bit of climbing we reach the top and can look along the flat, wide path to the Pacific Ocean in the far distance.

Now we start the downhill hike, finding a nice place to have a picnic lunch followed by an easy hike to the car. The path wetter and muddier in some places than expected but through deep forest and a very pretty end to a great day.
