Hike In Stillwater Cove Regional Park and Beach Sonoma County, California - July 16, 2025 3 Miles, 460' Elevation Gain Reenie and Bob
The weather was perfect for a nice day hike. We drove from Santa Rosa to Stillwater Cove Regional Park - a long, but beautiful ride. As the next photos show, we stopped at a pull-out with a great view of the coast. And of a mansion in the distant hills - 1500 Muniz Ranch Rd, Jenner, CA 95450.
Once we got to the Stillwater Cover parking lot, we decided that rather than immediately begin our hike up the Stockhoff Trail, we instead would first walk down to the nearby beach. As shown below, a sea otter was there to greet us. The first picture at the top of this page shows Reenie on the beach.
We then walked back up to the car, put on our day packs, and headed up the trail. There were pretty flowers and redwoods. At the top of the trail there was a barbedwire fence that prevented hikers from going into private property, so we turned around and walked back a bit to a place where we could have our picnic lunch. Sadly, mosquitoes came in abundance, so we decided it would be better to eat in the car and hiked back down to the parking lot. Reenie had prepared very tasty vegetable/chicken sandwiches and brought nuts and chocolate. Bob had brought some pistachios and pumpkin seeds, along with a mango. It was a filling lunch in the car with no mosquitoes.
We wanted to get back before 5 pm, so after lunch we started our long drive back. And almost immediately ran into some road construction that was blocking both lanes. After quite a long time one lane was opened. But not for us. As we waited we counted over 40 cars that passed us. Then our lane finally was allowed to go. We had had one car in front of us. We took off. After a bit, looking in the rearview mirror, Bob noticed that no other cars were behind us. An exciting end to a very, very wonderful day.
