Hike In Monte Rio Redwoods Regional Park and Open Space Preserve Sonoma County, California - June 4, 2025 With visit to Shell Beach 3 Miles, 1000' Elevation Gain Reenie and Bob
On a beautiful day (around 70 degrees, light breeze) we hiked through the forest at Monte Rio Redwoods Park. We only saw a few people (4 or 5) as we went up and one as we returned (we spoke with him and he told us he was a motorcyclist and sure enough, we saw his motorcycle at the bottom), so we had the forest pretty much to ourselves. Before returning, after having done a lot of uphill, we stopped at a very nice picnic spot and ate food Reenie had prepared (Bob did bring cashews).
After that hike, we drove to Shell Beach and enjoyed the sounds and smell of the ocean as we walked along the beach. Temperature was cooler than in the forest, but we had brought coats. There was one family there who left after we did - it was fun watching them try to do handstands in the sand. We also got to see a sea gull, who flew off. Walking on the beach we collected small, pretty rocks.
After the beach walk, we drove to the Spud Point Crab shop, bought the best crab sandwiches in the world along with clam chowder, then drove home. Below are pictures taken by each of us from this wonderful adventure.
