Hike In Jack London State Historic Park
Sonoma County, California - October 7, 2025
Hike 6 Miles, Climb 1,150 Feet
Reenie and Bob

We had thought about hiking up to a lake near Hood Mountain, but with the temperature in the upper 80's and much of the Hood Mountain hike in the open without trees, we decided to hike in the Jack London Park. A good decision. Most of the hike was in forest. We walked the road from the parking lot to London Lake (which was completely dried up - after a summer without rain). From there we got on the beautiful Mountain Trail, which was quite steep as we hiked to the Cowan Meadow trail, which was even steeper. We were a bit surprised to see some water flowing in a creek the Mountain Trail crossed.

After hiking part of the Cowan Meadow Trail and getting very good views of the surrounding valleys, we found a nice place to picnic just off the trail. Although it was sunny and hot, we were protected by the shade of the trees. So we enjoyed the picnic lunch (prepared by Reenie, thank you!), then headed back. A much easier hike going down!
