It was perfect weather for a hike along the coast. We started by parking in the lot for Shell Beach, going down to the beach, then returning to the car. At which point, we decided that rather than driving off, we would first hike south along the Kortum Trail, which had one of its trailheads right at the parking lot. So we hiked a ways, going well past Shell Beach down below. Eventually, after crossng a couple of creek bridges, there was an opportunity to go down to beaches. The question then was whether if we walked north along the beaches rather than going back up to the trail we could get back to Shell Beach. Fortunately, when we got near the rock pile just before Shell Beach, the tide had gone out enough so we could clamber over some rocks to Shell Beach.
This time we went up to the car from Shell Beach and drove off, heading south to Bodega Head. We parked, found an empty picnic table overlooking the ocean and ate the lunch Reenie had prepared, including chocolate. OK, Bob contributed cashews. And a banana! As we ate a seagull climbed onto the picnic table bench and glared at us demanding food. Bob gave in and provided crackers Reenie had brought. And cashews. And bread from his sandwich.
After lunch we walked along the Bodega Head trail for a bit. We returned to the car and Bob insisted on stopping at the Spud Point Crab Company so he could get dinner for him and Shirley: best crab sandwiches in the world! Reenie got some clam chowder and we began the drive home. Wait! Bob saw a sign to an ice cream shop, so we took a turn and drove down a road neither of us had tried before. And found Captain Davey's Ice Cream & Espresso shop. We both got icecream cones, then walked across the street to look across the water of Bodega Harbor. Then we drove back to Oakmont.
