Hike From Shell Beach to Red Hill
Sonoma County, California - May 29, 2024
~5 Miles, 600' Elevation Gain
Reenie and Bob

After parking car at Shell Beach parking lot (and seeing several children with a few adults getting ready to hike coastal trail), we hiked down to Shell Beach. The weather was perfect and at first we had the beach to ourselves. We walked along the beach, through some rocks, then thought with the tide rising - and that rock path clearly soon to be covered by sea water - we needed to walk back and up to the car.

At the car we changed into our hiking boots, put on our daypacks (after decreasing the weight by eating cashews), walked across Hwy 1, and started our hike up the Pomo Canyon trail (formally: The Dr. David C Joseph Memorial Trail). After hiking uphill for a while we got pretty views of the Russian River, Jenner, the Jenner Preserves where we have hiked several times before. Then into forest to a stream with a path up along the stream. We found a nice place to picnic - tasty sandwiches by Reenie along with chocolate (Bob provided a mango and even a knife with which to cut it).

Hiking back we again saw many flowers, the Russian River, and the wonderful views of the coast.
