It was a cool, clear day at the Jenner Headlands Preserve, although we could see haze in the distance toward the Russian River.

Soon after starting our hike we looked back to the parking lot we had just left and could see our first destination - the coastal mountain hill top - in the distance. Then we passed a garden plot which had never been there before on our previous hikes.

The path to the hill top was wide, grassy, and well maintained with good views. We could barely see two women hikers near the hill top, so we used the camera to zoom in and see them. They were walking a dog, not the mountain lion which Bob had assumed. We pass coyote bushes (thank you Shirley for telling Bob what they are!). We were now on the aptly name Sea to Sky Trail. Our climb was beginning.

As always we got to see cows and had to go through a gate to share territory with them. Unlike on our past hikes here, the cows chose to leave us before we could get up close on the trail.

The views of course were beautiful of the sea and land as we climbed to the hill top with the geological marker. Once at the marker we get excellent views of our path and climb to come.

As we hike up the trail we can look back to wonderful views of the ocean. Bob also notices in the far distance up the hillside a structure to which he once climbed long ago.

We get up to the woods at the top of our hike, have a wonderful picnic lunch including chicken sandwiches prepared by Reenie, cashews brought by Bob, chocolate. After eating and resting we head back down, once again of course getting views of the beaches and ocean where the Russian River enters the sea. We take the grass covered path shortcut down to the parking lot.

As we start the drive home we are curious as to why so many cars are pulled off to the side of the road before we get to Jenner. So we pull over. Looking down to the ocean from our pull-off, we see many, many surfers are off the shore. The recent weather has resulted in high surf and they are here to enjoy it.
