Kansas City Star Endorses Dan Carbery
"Would bring a passionate voice to the council"

March 28, 2003

The Kansas City Star today endorsed Dan Carbery for Overland Park City Council in Ward 6. The article stated:

" In Ward 6, Dan Carbery would bring a passionate voice to the council in questioning rapid development in the most southern parts of Overland Park. Carbery, a civil engineer, favors having the city strictly follow its master plan, which residents use to make their homebuying decisions. He also wants to make developers pay more for road improvements. Opponent Ron Williams, owner of an insurance brokerage firm, has been active in local business groups. This new Ward 6 seat has a two-year term."

Many supporters of Carbery's were pleasantly surprised this morning by the unexpected endorsement. Word traveled quickly among the Carbery's campaign staff. The Carbery campaign has been a grass roots effort from the start, outspend 3 to 1 and battling an opposition which has been pulling down Carbery signs almost as fast as they go up.

However, the door to door campaigning by teams of volunteers resulted in a 48% victory for Carbery with 4 candidates on the Primary ballot. The 3 candidates running against Williams garnered 73% of the vote and all are supporting the Carbery campaign in the General Election.
