Ward 6 Candidate Dan Carbery Signs Being Removed
Ron Williams Signs Remain, Sometimes Replace Carbery's

February 22, 2003

Over 100 campaign signs put up by grass roots volunteers for Ward 6 Candidate Dan Carbery have been taken down by someone. When Mr. Carbery spoke with another candidate, Dan Stock, Mr. Stock said his also had been disappearing. Both candidates noticed that the signs of the third candidate, who is widely seen as the candidate of developers and the status quo, are not removed. In fact, in some cases Mr. Williams' signs suddenly appear at the same time the others' signs disappear.

The obvious conclusion is that Mr. Williams' campaign is both aware of and supportive of this sort of tactic, although of course Mr. Williams denies it. When Mr. Carbery spoke with Mr. Williams, the response was as expected, denial of knowledge, accompanied by the statement that Mr. Williams was acting within "the letter of the law."

Several who are working in Mr. Carbery's campaign find the vandalism both irritating and a reflection on Mr. Williams' suitability for public office. The tactic is not seen, however, as particularly effective when used against a grass roots campaign such as Mr. Carbery's.
