Re:              Traffic Impact Analysis at 159th Street and Metcalf Preliminary Trip Generation and Distribution

Johnson County, Kansas

Dear Mr. Kroh:

In response to your request, TranSystems Corporation is providing preliminary results of our trip generation and trip distribution for your review. Due to the schedule requested by our client on this project, we request a response by the end of business Monday, April 29, 2002. If no response is received, we will proceed with the traffic impact study assuming that staff approves of these preliminary results.

TRIP GENERATION

The vehicle trips generated by the proposed shopping center development were estimated using the Institute of Transportation Engineers’ Trip Generation, 6th Edition. The Comprehensive Master Plan calls for transitional development at this location which suggests that apartments would be appropriate. The vehicle trips generated by the Comprchensive Master Plan were also estimated for this study assuming this site develops as apartments. The estimated daily, A.M. peak hour, and P.M. Peak hour weekday traffic volumes associated with each of these developments are also shown below.

TRIP DISTRIBUTION

The estimated peak hour trips generated by the proposed development will be distributed onto the street system based on the trip distributions listed below. Due to continuing development in this area of Johnson County and in Overland Park, as well as the planned interchange at 159th Street and US-69, the trip distribution patterns are anticipated to change over time. As such, separate distribution patterns will be used for the existing and future conditions. These distributions are consistent with past studies in the area.
