Residents Hire Attorney To Fight Blue Valley Plaza:
Charles Benjamin, former County Commissioner, Now Helps Neighborhoods

August 31, 2002

Neighborhoods fighting a proposed rezoning on the SE Corner of 159th and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS - a rezoning that violates the Master Plan - have hired attorney Charles Benjamin to help defend them from this commercial development. Mr. Benjamin has an impressive background (see resume) which includes assisting many neighborhoods and is currently working on two other such battles:

  • Expansion of the Johnson County landfill, before the City of Shawnee Planning Commission and the City of Shawnee Council considering a rezoning and special use permit.
  • Landfill to accommodate solid waste from Wichita, before the Harper Joint Cities-County Planning Commission and the Harper County Commission with regard to a proposed special use permit.

In addition, he is the Attorney and Legislative Coordinator for the Kansas Chapter of the Sierra Club.

Among many other achievements, Mr. Benjamin's background includes a 16 year stint as a County Commissioner in Harvey County, Kansas; a Juris Doctor (JD) Degree from the University of Kansas Law School; and a Doctorate from the University of Southern California.
