In spite of Overland Park notifying affected residents of the annexation meeting only 4 working days beforehand, and in spite of scheduling it for the first Monday after New Year's holiday, a standing room only crowd showed up to protest the inevitable. It seemed clear to many who attended that it was a charade. The Overland Park, KS, City Council vote at the end was almost unanimous. The one no vote, from Tim Owens, was because they would not be considering citizen input for even one week.
Anyone who attended and would be willing to have their testimony or opinion published on NeighborhoodNet, simply send me an email at phillips@kcnet.com. If you would like your opinion forwarded automatically to the Johnson County Board of Commissioners, who make the actual determination on annexation, and to the Overland Park City Council, address your email to annexation@nbrhd.net. My own opinion on annexation and Overland Park's ability to govern is in this editorial.
