GRINDER PUMP SEWER STUDY GOING FORWARD

9/26/1996

Rob Miller, Planning/Project Engineer for Johnson County Waste Water Department, reports that a Request For Proposal (RFP) has been let to several consulting engineering firms to help determine the cost of a grinder pump sewer system. The neighborhood chosen for the study is Hidden Valley in Lenexa. Hidden Valley is thought to represent a "worst case" scenario in the sense that the cost of installing such a sewer system there would be more expensive than in most other neighborhoods.

The RFP is only to determine costs, not to actually build a sewer system in Hidden Valley. Once the costs are determined for this one neighborhood, the Waste Water Department will begin holding public meetings in neighborhoods now on septic, but which might consider adopting the grinder pump system.

Public meetings are expected to begin in 6 or 7 weeks. By then the results of the study should be available. The Waste Water Department believes that the last sewer proposal which included Section S17 was rejected overwhelmingly because of its expense. The new sewer system is expected to be much cheaper.
