January 14, 1998:

Rob Miller, Planning/Project Engineer 338-1300 x2100, Waste Water, provided information on sewer proposals in these areas:

Section S17 (Blue Valley Riding area)

Around 60% of homeowners have returned their preference cards. The poll is running approximately 85% opposed to the low pressure sewers and 15% for. A second mailing of preference cards was sent January 4 to those homeowners who had not yet responded. A final tally and a map showing how people responded to the poll should be available within about 3 weeks.

Because of the flexibility of low pressure sewers, it is possible for a small set of homes (even 4 or 5) which are clustered together to get the sewers if they want them, while their neighbors remain on septic tanks. Mr. Miller noted that so far there are not even any small groups of homeowners clustered together in Section S17who want the sewers.

Based on results to date, it appears the County will not support a sewer petition in Section S17, either for the whole section or clusters of homes. However, it is important that all homeowners who have not yet returned their post cards do so. Based on Mr. Millers comments, it there is a group of homeowners living close together who wanted the sewers, the County might be able to accomodate them.

163rd & Mission (5 homes)

Four out of five homeowners on this cul-de-sac have requested an informational meeting about sewers.

Oxford Pointe/Switzer Lake Estates (near 151st and Switzer)

A sewer preference poll in this area indicated overwhelming support for gravity sewers, so a petition will be circulated and supported by the County.

Whispering Hills (83rd near Shawnee Mission Park)

Most of the homeowners who responded to the preference poll support the low pressure sewers, while there was one area that did not. This means the County will support a petition. Because of the flexibility of low pressure sewers, the area that does not want them will probably not get them.

Quivera Highlands (north Johnson County)

An informational meeting on sewers is being scheduled (this must be coordinated with the Board of County Commissioners) and will probably be held in 5 or weeks.
