Mr. Mike Booth, Johnson County Environmental Dept Air Quality Program Manager, reports that this summer he was unable to conduct the analysis he had promised of autobody paint shop fumes because of the need to work on other projects. The fumes from the autobody paint shop near 163rd and Metcalf Ave. are a concern to nearby residents.

Mr. Booth received from the paint manufacturer the data he needed about the chemicals used by the shop. In the last week he obtained the measurements (height and diameter of chimney, etc) of the autobody paint shop that the analysis also requires. This means that he has the information to conduct the analysis.

Rather than conduct the analysis himself, Mr. Booth will request that the EPA in Wyandotte County conduct it. Although the person in Wyandotte most experienced with the analysis is no longer there, Mr. Booth believes there are others who can conduct the study. According to Mr. Booth, this is relatively quick to do. He believes that the study should be accomplished in a few days, once there is time to do it.

Mr. Booth commented that when he visited the autobody paint shop, he found it one of the cleanest he has seen.
