Johnson County Environmental Department Moving Forward With Study Of Autobody Paint Shop

Mr. Mike Booth, who works for the Johnson County Environmental Department, is going to model the dispersion of airborne pollutants from the recently approved autobody/paint shop near Metcalf and 162nd St. Mike reports that Wyandotte County officials are familiar with the dispersion modeling used by the state of California and will train him in that methodology.

One step in evaluating aerosols is determining what ingredients are included in the paints the shop will be using. Mike has helped resolve a sticking point on this subject. The manufacturer of the paints, a German concern called Spies Hecker, considers its ingredients to be trade secrets. The New York office of the firm had been trying to convince Spies Hecker that it should provide the list of ingredients. Once Mike, representing the EPA, became involved, the company agreed to release the list of ingredients.

Once the list of ingredients is received, which should be in a couple of weeks, Mike will continue with the analysis.
