BLUE VALLEY RIDING HOMES ASSOCIATION - February 2002

The Blue Valley Riding Homes Association Board of Directors meeting was held on Feb. 25, 2002 at Gayle Schloemer’s house. Present were: Gayle Schloemer, Jamie Hunter, Janice Specht and Wendy Crosby.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Jamie Hunter was thanked for his service as President of the Board. He will organize the Secretary notes and History file before handing over. Sharon Albert has resigned. She will not be replaced until the next election.

Janice Sprecht gave the Financial Report. She will be resigning in April and BVR will need a new treasurer. The Financial Report will be distributed to all member households in next newsletter. A request for a new Treasurer will appear in next Newsletter.

Sherry Dvorak has agreed to be in charge of the pool again this year. The Board expressed appreciation for her contribution in pool upkeep last season.

Pool/Tennis Court Options

Long term neighborhood expenses were discussed including new entry signs, pool repair, tennis court resurfacing and paving. Gayle suggested the possibility of approaching Blue Valley High School to offer neighborhood land for sale for use as overflow parking in exchange for pool repair/replacement and upgrade. Discussion took place regarding issues facing the neighborhood and what the Board’s priorities should be. It was moved and seconded that no action be taken on the land sale issue until after the next Board meeting. The motion carried.

Political Liasons

A motion passed that Shirley and Bob Phillips and Sandy and Jim Hall will be the Political Liasons for the neighborhood. They can receive expenditure approval for copies for flyers needed to inform neighbors of development and issues directly affecting BVR neighborhood. They will keep the Board informed of the BVHS Sound system developments as well as Wal Mart and development issues.

RV's, Etc.

Roxanne Morse of the Oxford Township Zoning Board needs input from the Board as to whether we object to campers, boats, RV’s and trailers stored in yards as they are examining the issue in the County. Blue Valley by-laws state that no such items shall be stored for long periods of time in yards. The Board will compose a letter to the Oxford Township Board.

There have been numerous complaints about the neighborhood looking “run down” because of boats, RV’s, dead trees and unauthorized fencing and other violations of the by-laws. These items will be mentioned in the newsletter along with the reminder about permits, plan approval, etc. It was agreed that enforcement should be approached in a spirit of cooperation and community interest.

Copies of the by-laws were passed out, with each Board member present agreeing to read and suggest changes. It was suggested that the by-laws be re-written in “everyday” language. Copies of the bylaws and deed restrictions will be distributed to all households and could be included in a future Welcome to BVR brochure.
