Bob and Alan
We began our Ecuador adventure by flying into Quito, the capital of Ecuador, and then returning to Quito as we completed each phase of the trip. Quito was a fun place to visit, we stayed at a hotel we liked very much in a double room, and, even though we had been advised it could be unsafe in some places at some times, we never felt at risk.
We arrive in Quito, are picked up by Alfredo, who drives us to the Hotel Sierra Madre, where we have a double room with a balcony on the top floor. The next day we spend in the Cloud Forest on a hike, then return to the hotel and meet Franziska, our guide for the 8 day Rain Forest trip, and Matt, who had been delayed by a day. Franziska reviewed the rain forest trip we would begin the next day. Then we all went out to dinner at a restaurant specializing in Ecuadorian food. Afterwards, Franziska flagged down a taxi to return us to the hotel ($2.00) because she felt there was some risk in walking in Quito at night.

We both discovered a fruit in Ecuador that became one of our favorites. So much so, that we made a documentary on how to eat it, starring, yes. Alan: The Grenadia
