Yosemite/Ansel Adams Wilderness Backpacking Trip
Blue Lake Pass Approach
September 7, 2011

(Return to Backpack Trip Page)

Blue Lake Pass, western side [I decided it was too risky to go over pass by myself]

Lakes below Blue Lake Pass, western side - also, see video

Foerster Peak, just north of Blue Lake Pass

Looking south on approach to Blue Lake Pass - scenery is typically spectacular

Another look south on approach to Blue Lake Pass

Flowers covered the meadows on the approach. Elevation was 10,000 to 11,000 feet. Three weeks later weather report predicted 6" to 13" of snow. At one point I also heard barking, quite loud, from a distance away, although a video I took did not capture the sound well, you can hear them (whatever they were) in the background.

Early view of Foerster Peak and this video taken about the same time - just before noon.

Looking back to way I had just come. Small pond was first I saw upon reaching meadows.

Find the marmot

Find the pika

Going through the woods near the first off-trail lake. I then followed a stream upwards, stopping to take this video

First lake on way to Foerster Peak/Blue Lake Pass - no longer on trail

The approximate route I took starting from the first lake shown just above this image to near Blue Lake Pass. This image is taken from GoogleEarth. To see and travel the route in GoogleEarth, first install GoogleEarth if you do not already have it, then click here.
